Wishing Rigo Well in His Retirement

Over the last eight and a half years, we’ve had the great pleasure of working very closely with Rigoberto “Rigo” Hernandez, our business development and wholesale account representative. Both his dedication and knowledge played a role in helping us to grow over the years as a business to become what we are today by nurturing our clients through coffee education and knowledge. All of his contributions have also simultaneously elevated the specialty coffee industry within the local community.  

It is with sadness, but also warm wishes that I announce Rigo is retiring. He has been in the coffee industry for over 25 years in all facets of the business from sales, service, and delivery to coffee education and training. Having also been tea and espresso certified by SCA and also a founding member of Fair Trade San Diego, an organization to promote awareness and practices of fair trade in San Diego County, it’s true to say that coffee is now and will forever be embedded in his DNA.

“Coffee will always be one of my greatest loves, but it’s time for me to start a new adventure,” says Rigo. “I’m looking forward to spending more time with mom, visiting the family in Mexico and of course with my fishing pole. I’m going to truly miss the family environment that we’ve built here at Cafe Virtuoso and saying goodbye to partners, clients, and coworkers is going to be difficult. You’ll all be in my heart always. It’s really never a goodbye, it’s until I see you next time. Thanks so much to everyone!”

Savannah Phillips, our quality assurance manager will be stepping into Rigo’s role. As a certified SCA barista instructor, trainer and founder of the nonprofit coffee lab, the San Diego Coffee Training Institute, I’m very proud and confident to say that Cafe Virtuoso’s partners, clients, and employees will be in excellent hands through this transition.
