The New England Journal of Medicine recently published the results of a 13 year study funded by the National Cancer institute and AARP. The study showed that drinking 2-3 cups of coffee per day lowers the overall risk of death by 10-15%. The effect seemed to be the same whether patients consumed regular or decaf coffee.
Coffee drinkers showed decreased death rates from heart disease, respiratory problems, strokes, injuries and accidents, diabetes and infections. While the study admitted to having some weaknesses, it definitely offered reassurance that coffee drinking is positively linked to our health.
